From left to right: Derek Owen, Dan Neville, Kevin Gardner
Owen Associates, Inc. was incorporated in 1997 to formalize a long-standing work relationship among Derek Owen, Dan Neville, Kevin Gardner. Dave Milliken, retired from teaching at NH Technical Institute, did the necessary paperwork and joined as an incorporator. Throughout the years Owen Associates has specialized in finding creative solutions to everyday problems.
Our principal shareholders each brought different skills to the company. Dave Milliken served as the “office brains,” setting up the accounting system and keeping everything in apple pie order. After several years he sold his share in the company to the original three partners.
Derek Owen was skilled in restoration of barns and other post-and-beam agricultural buildings. In addition to his reputation as an organic farmer and state legislator, his expertise in dry-masonry stonework and stone wall building makes him the stuff of local legend.
Kevin Gardner learned dry masonry and the stone wall building from Derek. In the past four decades he has built or repaired hundreds of walls as well as town pounds, walkways, ramps, bridges, wells and foundations. He has written extensively on the topic of dry masonry and stone walls and been featured in magazine articles and books on the subject.
Dan Neville brought his skill in production carpentry, custom millwork and remodeling. He got his start as part of a construction crew building Havenwood in Concord, NH. Attracted to the precision required by carpentry and the sense of satisfaction involved in working with wood, he has gone on to build a 35-year career marked by quality and customer satisfaction. His work with Owen Associates has allowed him to develop additional skills in barn restoration, supervision and general contracting.
At various times since its inception, Owen Associates has had up to eight people on staff, in addition to the three principals. Our current crew has been with the company for over ten years. Over the years the company has developed relationships with an excellent group of subcontractors for use on larger, more complex jobs. At least one of our principals is involved with your project from the planning stage to completion.
